Frequently Asked Questions

Here are a few Frequently Asked Questions about Cedarhurst. If an answer to your question is not found here, please feel free to write us at info@cedarhurstbuilders.com.

What is the Cedarhurst approach to building?
Cedarhurst regards building as a science. We do our homework and never cut corners to find the most energy-efficient, top quality, high performance materials and procedures to make your home a source of enduring pride.

Does Cedarhurst just build new homes?
We do it all! New homes, renovations, custom kitchens, baths, custom cabinetry, moldings, additions, wine cellars… we’ve even built an English pub in the basement of a South County home.

What are some building trends Cedarhurst has seen in custom bathrooms?
More and more, the bathroom, especially master bathroom, is becoming a spa-like escape from the rest of the house and from hectic everyday life. Bath and Body Shower Sprayers are part of the whole "spa" treatment concept. It is not just about taking a shower to get clean; it is about relaxation and the shower sprayers provide just that.

A frameless shower door provides clean, aesthetically-pleasing visual lines. Homeowners delight in the fact that all you can see is the glass design, unencumbered by a metal frame. Typically, these types of doors are used on showers in which elaborate tile work is showcased.

In-home saunas we build incorporate many features one would find in a resort or spa. The rooms are approximately 8 foot by 7 foot with 7 foot ceilings. We use clear tongue and groove cedar for the wall and ceiling surfaces. Clear cedar is also used for custom-built two tier benches that provide seating and reclining space. The saunas are heated by a Swedish-built wall-mounted heater and steam unit. Other amenities can include tumble marble floor tiles for easy cleaning, as well as, custom built removable cedar "duckboards" for the floor. These provide a safe secure footing surface easily removable for cleaning purposes.

Do Cedarhurst homes stand the test of time in the harsh Rhode Island climate?
Having built many homes near or on the coast, Cedarhurst employs the latest building techniques to protect against harsh wind, driving rains and long, cold winters. We are experts in combining the aesthetics you want with the environmental protection you need.

Is Cedarhurst a design-build firm?
Cedarhurst has access to and history working with a talented pool of designers and architects. If you have your own designer or architect, we are happy to work with your people. If you need a designer or architect, we can spearhead the process for you.

Does Cedarhurst build commercial projects?
No. Cedarhurst is a dedicated residential builder.

What are the first steps to working with Cedarhurst?
We begin with an initial no-cost consultation with you to review and discuss the scope of your project. When you decide to move ahead in working with us, we compile a detailed estimate outlining all work involved and gathering estimates from any trusted subcontractors we will engage. There is a fee for this comprehensive estimate which will be deducted from the actual project pricing.
